Cmdr Hayes, Lt. Cmdr. Watson, Counselor Whitman and Kid Computer(a younger, hipper, more mobile copy of the Sisyphus's computer) are aboard the shuttlecraft SS James Jackson when they encounter a wormhole and crash-land on the out-of-the-way but not-completely-inaccessible planet of Mumex. The planet's Mayor, Yango, hopes to turn Mumex into a resort and seeks to win over the Sisyphus crew with help from Cmdr. Charles Lorem, a Starfleet officer from the USS Daedalus stranded on Mumex for four years. Lorem refuses to help, or even leave the cave he has made his home, where spends his time alone making haunted Extremely Personal Log entries about his raging lusts. The Mayor and his partner K/Heath try to entertain Sisyphus officers on their own, encouraging them to look around and enjoy the planet's brothels. Counselor Whitman finds himself alone with K/Heath, who he asks to tell everyone they had sex so he can impress his crewmmates. Hayes and Watson find Lorem in his cave where, after catching up on some Starfleet gossip, he points out that their interactions with the primitive natives are in violation of the Prime Directive, which they had totally forgotten about. Meanwhile, K/Heath's imaginary fling with Whitman has brought into focus very real problems with his and the Mayor's relationship. He confronts the Mayor about their future while the Starfleet officers plan to confront the Mayor to assess the cultural damage from their visit. When they arrive, however, Lorem takes the opportunity to confront K/Heath about their secret love affair, the source of his tortured feelings. K/Heath also admits to having sex with Lt. Watson when no one was looking. Between the Prime Directive violations and the embarrassing sexual liaisons, all have good reason to conceal what has occurred. The Starfleet officers and the Mumexians agree to secrecy and go their separate ways.
