No, not that one. Captain Baxter feels overshadowed when his old academy friend, Admiral Jefferies, inventor of the Jefferies tubes, arrives onboard the USS Sisyphus to lead a mission of the utmost importance. The Admiral orders the Sisyphus to the secret location of Forever, giving coordinates to a City that Starfleet has detected on its edge. Privately he warns Baxter that the crew may not all make it back alive, but Baxter assures him that its the case with most of his missions, having routinely endangered his crew unnecessarily just to keep things exciting. Dr. "Foggy McCloud" fruitlessly counsels the Captain and Admiral to abandon the mission; during his eons of being a cloud he passed through Forever, and the region has the effect of making one temporarily omniscient, a condition he is sure the crew cannot handle. Cmdr. Hayes also worries about what they'll find, having been on a mission to Eternity before and finding it unpleasant. Due to his eponymous tubes Admiral Jefferies is a hero to much of the crew, who spend much of the trip fawning over him. Lt. Lady Cola and he disappear for a long crawl through the Sisyphus's tubes, and Fritz and Japhy cancel their tether-ball date to bake the admiral a cake on the holodeck(while the cake vanishes once it leaves the holodeck, the delicious smell follows them the rest of the day). Arriving at the City of the Edge of Forever, the crew begin to experience flashes of unearned knowledge; they learn the numerous types of tigers, and that in five years time LtCmdr Watson will murder Engineer Fassbinder. Admiral Jefferies instructs the crew to scan for Nazi's, and they're shocked to discover the City is overrun with them.
Captain Baxter has the Nazi's brought onboard to interrogate them, but they soon overrun the ship, planning to take it for themselves. Just when it appears all is lost, an assault team led by the Admiral jumps out of a Jefferies tube, killing all the Nazi's. Having destroyed the omniscient Nazi threat Admiral Jefferies orders the ship away from Forever, and tells the crew to remember that while its their job to seek out new life in a spirit of open-mindness and acceptance, its still always okay to kill a Nazi. Everyone piles into a Jefferies tube for a group photo with their hero; Captain Baxter is asked to take the picture.
