The crew of the Sisyphus are assigned a mission from Starfleet to Achyon 4 to investigate a mysterious pizza worshiping cult. Before arriving, the crew rendezvous with Councilor Japhy Whitman's parents, Pappy, and Mammy Whitman who come along for the mission. The Whitman's are greeted by the ship's holographic greeter. Japhy is upset at his parent's arrival, and generally aghast at everything they do throughout the mission.

The Whitman's are sex councilors from Risa, and before long Mammy Whitman has a long, intense therapy session with Captain Baxter while Pappy, and the rest of the crew investigate the pizza cult.

Lorem, Watson, and Japhy discover the cult in an underground pepperoni mine after receiving directions from a holographic greeter who looks suspiciously like the greeter from their ship. They are easily tricked by the cultists who use the handcuff setting of a phaser to capture them. The cult tries to cook the three into a giant pizza in order to honor their conception of the Circle of Life. Captain Baxter, noticing that the crew had been gone for too long, goes to investigate. He finds the crew who have managed to save themselves through the work of Japhy, and his parents.
